Night Descends

There’s a love for those that I hold dear

It is my one last spark and greatest treasure

As the wind’s blowing turns severe

I shield my hope’s last dying ember

This dance we dance can oft be confusing

But I am just as lost as you

Whatever thoughts this madness brings

I swear my promises will always hold true.

I’m still the same person, can you not see?

Only now they like to call me insane

But no matter the dark I will always be me

For my sake will you stay in the game?

I say don’t run from me this time

But beg beware me tomorrow

I swear this bout I’ll hold the line

Even in the depths of sorrow.

Deep in the night it’s me and my tablets

Pills do little but talking does less

My strength of will is what I have left

My madness will grant me little rest.

The moon will return to its home, the night

Its silent presence greatly comforting

Though it may hide and slip out of sight

And I lose myself among twisted reasoning

I yearn for light but fear the dawn

Because here in the night I know my place

And the brightness that comes will very soon be gone

It’s only here in the night that I am safe.

The colors dazzle and inspire and amaze

And try to lure me from the shadows

But they also confuse, and mislead, and craze

This lesson I’ve learned: the light will always ebb and flow.
