Outside the Shelter

She crossed me well the other day

The passions rose so fast

The hurt rang out in our wordplay

With bitterness set to last

Now she’s shut me out again

From the shelter of our love

No passion or plea will make her bend

Nor attract the flight of the dove

With affection fading faster still

I seek out a benediction so soft

When fighting is over with nothing to kill

I hope to return to love's salvation aloft
