I.C.U.

Crumpled white hospital sheets

Somewhere ‘tween the dead and living

A body withered, now reposed

A spirit all worn out from giving

They tend him like a withered fauna

They wait for him to regrow once more

He lies there staring vacantly

At the life he sees beyond the door

Wonder at what got him here

Before where he was before

Lost in feverish reverie

At what was once… but is no more.
